Name: STEAM Camp “Groovy Machines”

Description: Simple machines are devices with few or no moving parts that are used to modify motion and the magnitude of a force in order to perform work. They are the simplest mechanisms known that can use leverage (or mechanical advantage) to increase force. The simple machines are the inclined plane, lever, wedge, wheel and axle, pulley, and screw. Sometimes gears are considered another type of simple machine. You will learn more about these as the week progresses but for now let’s look at the picture below.

Name: STEAM Camp “Space”

Description: As you know, NASA engineers need to work closely with one another. Failure to collaborate effectively could mean aborted missions, explosions, and loss of life. It’s a high stakes project. Just think, as an astronaut, the last thing you’d want is to be in a rocket that was designed, built and controlled by engineers who could not work together - it could be disastrous. So, in addition to designing and launching rockets, we are going to build our collaboration skills.
